The Indian Sars-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics (INSACOG), a network of laboratories monitoring genomic variations of the Covid-19 virus, stated that the BXX sub-variant currently circulating and increasing in COVID-19 infection is spreading fast but is less severe; hence hospitalization is also less.

The BXX sub-variant, a recombinant variety, has gradually increased by 20–30% across the nation. 60% of Covid-19 instances still have BA2.75 as their predominant variation. The spread is being watched, according to an INSACOG member. To assess the Covid-19 situation nationwide, a review meeting was convened on Friday.

Multiple Omicron subvariants have been found over the past few weeks, including BQ.1, BXX, and newly emerging subvariants BA5.1.7 and BF.7. BQ.1A variant is a variant connected to the BA.5 version that caused the surge in the US is.

The Union health minister also conducted a meeting to assess the situation last week, considering the anticipated increase in cases owing to the festival season.
